Christmas day
My family every year changes where they celebrate christmas. It is either at one of my uncles or aunties houses. Because I have five aunties and uncles and my Nonna we get a lot of places to choose from. My Nonna and one of my uncle and aunties live in kwinana, the other ones live in the bush somewhere, and others live in Munster around the Fremantle area. There is also my dads cousins house that we sometimes go to and they live really far away near Perth somewhere.
One Christmas we went to my uncle and aunties that live out in the bush somewhere. Because they live in the bush they have a big huge property and my uncle had a motorbike. He also has a ride on mower which is fun to mess around on with my cousins. After we finished eating our big feast that my Nonna and aunties had been cooking all day we went back outside to play cricket and have a good time.
We decided to ask our uncle if he could take us on his motorbike because at this time we were all too young to ride by ourselves. He said that he would let us all have a go if we sat in front of him while he steered it. After having a great time going really fast around his property he let my dad have a go on it. My dad used to ride motorbikes but stopped after he had kids so his skills were a bit rusty. So he got on the bike and went flying off into the bushes. A couple of minutes later he came out with his little toe hanging on by a bit of skin. He had ridden along the wire fence and got his toe caught in the wire. It cut through his bone and just left a bit off skin. He had badly broken his toe and needed to get a pin in it. It was a good way to end the Christmas day.
Family
Because I have part Italian in me, I have a big family. I have lots of cousins and aunties and uncles. When one of my aunties (Zias) or uncles (Zios) have a birthday, we go to my Nannas (Nonnas) house to celebrate. This is really fun and we all have a great time. Me and my cousins sometimes go down to the golf course and just walk around, other times we play cricket footy or soccer.
My Nonna cooks us a mean pasta feast and she also makes very good schnitzel and olives. I really like the food that she cooks because she makes it with love and it’s home made Italian food. My Nonna is the nicest lady I have ever met. She is loving, caring, and is a very good cook. She is also a very keen gardener and so every morning she is out in her garden trimming flowers, watering them and doing what she has to too keep her garden at its best. She also goes for a walk every morning around her local area. She I s Avery committed woman and if there is someone she wants to do she will do it.
My Nonna is my dads mum. My Nonno died when I was only 18 months old and so I can’t remember much about him. But form what I get told by my aunties and uncles he was a very funny, loving man like my Nonna. He died from a heart attack in his sleep. When he came to australia he was sent to rottnest because he was Italian and he came at the time of the war. Although he wasn’t an Italian spy he still got locked up just incase. I look up to my Nonna a lot and she is a very inspiring woman.
The party
On 31st December, 2011 there was a party going on in Baldivis to celebrate New Years. All of my mates from school were going and I was very keen to go along with them. So I asked mum if i could go and at first her answer was a straight away no. This meant the day was going to be a long day of doing chores and being an angel child so that mum would hopefully let me go out. I got dragged around grocery shopping, and doing other boring things that mums do. I had to act like I was enjoying myself the whole time.
Finally after a long day of doing boring stuff with my mum I asked her again, ‘mum can I PLEASE go to this party?’ and to my surprise she said yes. So straight away I phoned up my mate and we met up and started to go to the party. We were both very excited and we went and picked up another mate. My mates brother dropped us off at the Rockingham Train Station and we got on the next train. We met up with another friend at Warnbro Train Station and headed off to the to Baldivis. Because we got to the Baldivis early we decided to drop by a friends house and say hello. We stayed their for about an hour talking and having a good time when we said goodbye and headed off to the party.
While we were walking to the party me and my four other mates were talking and having a good laugh to make the walk seem shorter. We were the first ones to arrive at the party so we went for a swim in the pool while we waited for everyone else to arrive. Eventually more and more people started to show up and the night started to look like it was going to be fun.
Time flies when you are having fun. It seemed like in a blink of an eye we were already counting down from ten to celebrate the new year. When the countdown reached zero everyone started cheering and wishing each other the best of luck for the new year.
Not long after this everyone started leaving so I went out the front and waited for my mum to pick me up. She dropped a few of my mates off at Warnbro Train Station so that they could get home. All in all it was a good night and I enjoyed it very much.
Way of life.
Bodyboarding isn’t just a sport or a hobby it’s a way of life. When you’re in the water staring down that perfect set of waves there is no better sight. Then you start to paddle for this wave, your going to make this wave yours and your going to ride it like it’s your last.
This is how I think when I am bodyboarding. I zone out, stop worrying about anything and everything and just start to think about these waves. I choose to bodyboard because I have a love for the sport.
I started to kick and paddle frantically just to get this perfect wave. I wasn’t stopping for anyone. This was going to be the wave that I enjoy the most. I continued paddling, seeing that lump of water getting closer and closer. The barrel on this wave was going to be unreal. I was going to pull into the barrel, get a huge spit, hit the lip and flip out. When I got this wave it went exactly how I wanted. There was a guy taking photos and he got a good shot of me in the barrel. Hopefully that one can go on the cover of riptide. I paddled back out to the lineup and heard all the other boogers whispering ‘did you see that wave?’. It was a sick wave, one I was going to remember for a long, long time.
This is how I think when I boog, its an addiction, but a good addiction…an addiction that I don’t want to lose. I could spend the rest of my life doing this, I would love to make a career out of it. Traveling the world, surfing new waves, meeting new people, and having lots of new experiences. That is my dream and I would love to do that when I am older.
